The solo exhibition of acclaimed painter Nikos Moschos, titled “Inevitable Nature,” is participating in the international contemporary art fair “Swab Art Fair 2016,” which will take place in Barcelona from September 29 to October 2, 2016, according to an announcement from “ena” gallery, with which the artist collaborates.

Nikos Moschos’s “landscapes” do not depict a specific moment or a specific place, as in Impressionism. They are a collage of elements that create impressions that are both familiar and completely new at the same time.

Although his technique is based on the principles and values of traditional painting, his perspective is entirely contemporary.
He takes advantage of the possibilities of electronic imagery offered by multiple cameras, microscopes, and even drones, having expanded his horizons beyond the visual field of the human eye. At the same time, the spatial arrangement of the elements in certain sections follows a deliberately simplified rendering, directly referencing comics as well as an early, almost childlike perception of nature.

In this series of Moschos’s works, the human figure does not occupy the dominant, protagonist role as in his previous work. One could say that, in this new body of work, the imprint of human intervention is captured—sometimes voluntary and necessary, other times violent and destructive—on the environment.

The changes and transformations seem to occur by themselves within the artwork. The individual parts appear to struggle for dominance over one another, like geological layers over time. Cause and effect coexist within the same image. The mixture of heterogeneous elements—such as rocks, machines, and a layer of whipped cream—serves as a kind of commentary on cultural evolution and the ongoing relationship of survival and organization within the environment.

Humans have a tendency to consider themselves the center and to shape the environment through their own dynamic force. While seemingly fighting against their animal instincts, they fail to free themselves from both the inferiority complex and the superiority complex toward nature. The joy of conquests quickly fades, and any achievements appear essentially as small extensions of their inevitable intrinsic nature.
